德进四 - Te Chapter 74

民之不畏畏 则大畏将至矣

毋闸亓所居 毋猒亓所生

夫唯弗猒 是以不猒

是以圣人自知而不自见也 自爱而不自贵也 故去被取此

民众不再惧怕应该敬畏的存在的时候，就预示着非常可怕的事情将会到来。 不要限制或缩减民众日常安居的环境或条件，不要肆意消耗民众日常生产的成果。只有不去肆意享用，就不会过于饱足而感到倦累，以至于产生厌倦的情绪。 因此，通达事理的人知道自己的水平所在，但是不会固执己见；珍爱自身，但是不会以为个人有多么的尊贵（多么的有价值）。所以要紧守自知之明，保重自己，但不要固执己见，自以为是。

• 猒，饱也。从甘，从肰。按饱足则人意倦矣，故引伸爲猒倦、猒憎。

When people no longer fear those they should respect, it foreshadows terrible things to come.

Do not restrict or reduce the living environment or conditions of the people, and do not recklessly consume the daily production of the people. Only by not indulging in excessive consumption will one not become too satisfied and fatigued, leading to feelings of boredom.

Therefore, those who are wise understand their own limitations, but do not stubbornly cling to their own views; they value themselves, but do not think themselves to be especially honorable or valuable. Therefore, it is important to maintain self-awareness, take care of oneself, but not be stubborn and arrogant.
