道七 - Tao Chapter 07

天长 地久

天地之所以能长且久者 以其不自生也 故能长生

是以圣人后其身而身先 外其身而身存 非以其无私邪

故能成其私

天上下四方无边广大，地古往今来恒久存在。天地之所以宏大且久远，是因为祂的存在不是通过自身的繁衍而来（而是通过生生不息的观察者持久的探索和发现维持存在），所以能够持续的长大久远的生长下去。 因此通达事理的人不需要参与到行动的第一线就能对前方情况了若指掌并对行动做出指示，也可以毫不关注自身状态却又活得好好的。这种功劳让给他人，不关注自身状况的情况，难道不是无私么？这种把握根本规律的智慧，恰恰成就了他们自己。（菩萨畏因众生畏果）

The universe is boundless and vast, and the earth has existed for a long time. The reason why the universe is so vast and long-lasting is because its existence does not come from its own reproduction, but rather from the constant observation and exploration of those who keep it alive. Therefore, it can continue to grow and last for a long time.

Therefore, those who understand the principles of life do not need to be involved in the front line of action in order to understand the situation and give instructions for action. They can also live well without paying attention to their own state of being. This kind of achievement is given to others, and not paying attention to one's own state of being is not selfish? This kind of wisdom that grasps the fundamental laws, precisely achieves their own. (The Bodhisattva fears the cause of the sentient beings and fears the result)
