Te Chapter 71
芮芮,草生貌;
斤,斫木斧也;
In warfare, I don't dare to initiate attacks, but rather prefer to take the initiative; I don't dare to advance even an inch, but rather prefer to wait until I have developed ten times the strength of my target. This is called achieving the results of warfare without actually going to war; achieving progress without taking action; and achieving command of an army without using weapons. At this point, there are no enemies.
There is no greater disaster than not being in line with objective conditions. For example, without a suitable weapon, one loses the ability to defend oneself.
If one's own development is flourishing, then one's understanding and objective environment are in harmony. If two armies are evenly matched, then the side that is more grieved and sorrowful is more likely to win.
