道者 万物之注也 善人之葆也 不善人之所葆也
美言可以市 尊行可以贺人
人之不善也 何弃之有
故立天子 置三卿 虽有共之璧以先四马 不善坐而进此
古之所以贵此者 何也
不胃求以得有罪以免舆 故为天下贵
天下万物按照某种基础的道理生长发展,这道理也就能够指导万物发展的方方面面,擅长生活的人主动遵循祂获得美好的生活,不擅长生活的人被祂所庇荫也能生活美好。美妙的语言(是有力量的)可以换取有价值的东西;敬重他人的行为可以互相收受祝福。即便有人不善于生活(为人处世),又怎么可以因此抛弃他们呢? 因此天子即位、分封三卿(司徒司马司空)的时候,虽然要举行“有华美的玉制礼器在前引导,宣示显赫地位的驷马高车在后”的献礼仪式,本质上也仍然是其人(一开始刚坐上这个位置)不善于行使这个位置的权力而(不得不)承担这个责任。上古时候之所以会重视这个即位仪式,是为什么呢?不正是向他(天子)请求可以获得满足,而即位的时候大赦天下(犯了罪可以获得赦免)么。(这就是遵循祂而设计出仪轨,从而产生的庇荫)因此天子可以成为天下最尊贵的人。
葆,草盛貌。
All things in the world grow and develop according to a certain basic principle, this principle can guide the development of all things in all aspects. People who are good at living actively follow it to achieve a good life, and people who are not good at living can also live well under its protection. Beautiful language (has power) can exchange valuable things; respecting others' behavior can receive blessings from each other. Even if some people are not good at living (dealing with people), how can they be abandoned?
Therefore, when the emperor ascends the throne and divides the three officials (Ministers of Works, War and Justice), although there is a ceremony of "beautiful jade ritual vessels in front and high horse-drawn carriages in back" to announce the emperor's position, in essence, it is still the person (when he first took the position) who is not good at exercising the power of this position and (has to) bear this responsibility. Why did ancient times attach so much importance to this enthronement ceremony? Isn't it just asking him (the emperor) for satisfaction, and when he ascends the throne, he pardons the whole world (those who committed crimes can be forgiven)? (This is the protection produced by designing the ritual track according to it) Therefore, the emperor can become the most noble person in the world.
